Don't let the title fool you - the main character may look like an airhead but really is a down-to-earth girl with an average girl's heartache and insecurity issues. Only she's a superstar and her carefully built image as the new shooting star and idol for the masses clashes wildly with her own view of herself.Mikayla is a very lovable girl-next-door. I enjoyed her assessment of her surroundings. She speaks with a dry humour and with a sense of self-irony. While she appreciates the financial aspect and the comfort of having people around her to attend to her needs, she also realises that the downside of her overnight success is being a public person. Wherever she goes, people want a part of her. They refuse to recognise her real personality but project on her what they have been fed by the press. She is struggling hard with those side-effects of her newfound popularity.
Mikayla is constantly being sized up by numerous Hollywood cliché characters who try to shape stars into the kind of icon they think the public wants. Her advisors and managers already got her to change her hair colour and are pushing her to alter her cup size, nose and personality, too.
We meet her at a point in her life where she is starting to wonder how she got herself in a situation where she is not allowed to be herself anymore. Most people around her aren't interested in the person she is but more in how they can make even more money, counting on her good-naturedness. I kept wanting her to just tell them to go to hell.
Having been hung-up on her ex boyfriend who unceremoniously dumped her before she became famous, she finally meets a man who she falls in love with. He isn't keeping up with celebrities and therefore doesn't know she is famous. As his mother has ruined her life by her futile efforts to belong to the celebrity circus, he despises everything involving stardom.
Sneaking out at night to meet with him and living a normal life for a few hours is becoming so precious to Mikayla that she is soon caught between a rock and a hard place: tell him who she really is and risk his rejection or lie to him which makes her feel just as bad.
I won't say any more than that: If you like a funny, easy read, go for it!

Tanned Toned and Totally Faking It edition by Whitney Boyd Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This book easily kept my interest. It's written in a breezy, casual style and has very likeable characters. How could you not like a story about a 20-year-old brand-new rock star? It was fun to read. I picked it up and didn't put it down until I was finished.
Super cute story about a young girl who suddenly finds herself in the spotlight. How she figures out who she is and how to handle her fame is a great read!
If you were a rock star and everyone wanted you, would you wonder what they wanted you for? Would you want to get away from the lights, the microphones, the flashes of cameras and the glitz? If you could, what would you do? Go on a picnic with a nice guy you must met? Meet his friends and try to stay away from the side of town who knows who you are? Geez, what's a rock star to do?
Rich and famous isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. When true lives comes along Mickayla hides her true life in an attempt to keep a normal relationship. But lies never bring happiness.
This was a very sweet story with really likable characters! I did not expect to like this book so much, but I did. Okay, so it's pretty unrealistic, however it is fiction and I found myself really wanting to believe that some famous people might actually be so sweet and down to earth. Anyone looking for something realistic and serious, may want to look elsewhere, but I thoroughly enjoyed the read. Here's the rub, I hate the cover (for one reason I won't mention on here), which is the whole reason I didn't give it five stars. Yes, I feel strongly enough about it to take it down a whole star. Sorry.
Fun book about a music diva (Mikayla)who is thrown into celebrity status with fame and fortune; she wants to be herself, but can't, especially driven by her maniacal `best friend' manager who tries to transform her into the ideal Hollywood image. When Mikayla meets Jordan and realizes he doesn't know who she is, she has fun being herself and falls in love. But Jordan hates celebrities (thinks they're fake). What will he do when he discovers the truth about Mikayla's life...and what will she do when her old flame that broke her heart years ago resurfaces? Read it and see. You won't regret it.
Mikayla is 20, she is gorgeous, she is a Grammy nominated Pop star who writes her own music, but she is so unhappy because her college boyfriend dumped her for another girl 9 months ago and she can't get over it. Her female manager is using her, her mother and sister are still in Canada and her only 'real' friend is her trainer / dresser / confidante. So despite being a rising superstar; her life will only be complete if she has a man. Add in a scene where she messes up cooking dinner for a date and her friend smuggles in take out food badly and we have a 1930s screwball comedy; without the laughs
Practically every female character is either incompetent, nasty, backstabbing or stupid. But getting a boy back will make it all better.
